Student Spotlight: Gianna Coluccio

Preceptors and students are the heart of the MomentMD platform and mission. While we pride ourselves on providing a top-notch precepting experience for both students and teachers, we’re most proud of the people we meet and the connections we make.

For that reason, we’re excited to introduce the first installment of our new Student Spotlight series, where we introduce you to some of the hard-working graduates helping to revolutionize healthcare from the inside out.

Gianna Coluccio is a Physician Assistant (PA) student at St. John’s University. Originally from Long Island, New York, she developed a passion for healthcare at an early age after her mother initially suggested it as a potential career path. The rest, as they say, was history.

By her sophomore year of high school, Gianna was volunteering in a local hospital, where she experienced various healthcare roles interacting in real-time. It was through this experience she found her way to PA, which she described “fit my mold of what and who I wanted to be.” After receiving her Bachelor’s Degree from Hofstra University in 2021, she set out to gain more patient care experience, becoming a certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and working in a pediatrician’s office and urgent care.

Gianna began her clinical rotation with MomentMD in 2024 under the preceptorship of Jordan Davis, PMHNP. “She was very welcoming, young, and relatable, which I appreciated since everything was so new.” It was not only Gianna’s very first rotation but also the university’s first-ever psychiatric rotation.

For students beginning their own precepting journeys, Gianna suggests, “Come with weak spots. Use your rotation as room for growth and an opportunity to expand on what you struggled with in didaction. Take notes, but also don’t be afraid to be fully present–you absorb much more than you think.”

The purpose of a preceptorship is to learn–understandably so. While professional growth is always the goal, we’re just as interested in students’ personal development.

We asked Gianna if there’s anything she learned about herself throughout her rotation, and she remarked that she might not actually be the introvert she always thought she was. “I learned I have the confidence to do what I set out to and am actually fulfilling my dream. I’m not afraid to take the lead, and I’m proud to.”

We’re proud of you, too.
