About Franklin University
Founded in 1902, Franklin University is a private, nonprofit university in Columbus, Ohio, built around one idea: education should fit the lives of working adults. That mission shapes everything about its School of Nursing. Franklin’s CCNE-accredited nursing programs, including the RN-BSN completion program and MSN tracks in Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), and Adult-Gerontology Primary Care (AGPCNP) serve licensed RNs who balance full-time jobs, families, and coursework at the same time.
Franklin’s students don’t follow a traditional academic calendar. They enroll year-round, study online, and live across many states. That flexibility is Franklin’s greatest strength and, for clinical education, its greatest logistical challenge.
The Challenge
Franklin’s nursing programs faced a placement problem that traditional solutions couldn’t solve:
- Two different clinical models under one roof. NP students need hundreds of precepted hours in specialty care. RN-BSN students need structured direct and indirect patient care experiences. Most placement solutions handle one or the other. Franklin needed both.
- Students scattered across states. A working RN in one state and an FNP student in another both need placements but local preceptor availability varies wildly by market. Franklin couldn’t build site relationships in every city where a student lived.
- Rolling enrollment, year-round demand. With cohorts starting throughout the year, Franklin needed placements in months when traditional clinical sites slow down including summer, when many preceptors reduce teaching commitments.
- Working students with no schedule slack. Franklin’s students complete clinicals around night shifts, weekend hospital work, and family obligations. A placement that only offers weekday daytime hours doesn’t work for them.
- Coordinator time stretched across multiple program tracks. Managing separate placement processes for NP and BSN students meant duplicated effort, duplicated vendor relationships, and duplicated administrative overhead.
The Solution
MomentMD partnered with Franklin University to support both program tracks through a single platform and a single account team.
One partnership, multiple tracks. Rather than treating the NP and RN-BSN programs as separate engagements, MomentMD structured the partnership to serve both under one agreement. One contract. Rapid placement confirmation. Franklin’s rolling admissions meant students could need placements on short timelines. MomentMD’s placement team confirmed rotations within a 12-hour window for eligible requests, replacing the weeks-long confirmation cycles that Franklin’s students had experienced when sourcing preceptors on their own.
Telehealth rotations built for working RNs. Students completed precepted telehealth rotations across psychiatric mental health, leadership in nursing, and community health with certified MomentMD providers. Flexible scheduling, including evening and weekend sessions, let students complete clinical hours without leaving their jobs.
Mid-rotation check-ins. MomentMD introduced structured mid-rotation check-ins for Franklin students, a proactive touchpoint that surfaces engagement issues, scheduling conflicts, or learning gaps while there’s still time to fix them. Instead of discovering problems in post-rotation feedback, Franklin’s program team heard about them in week one, not week eight.
Year-round capacity. Because MomentMD’s preceptor network operates independent of any single academic calendar, Franklin’s off-cycle cohorts received the same placement reliability as fall starts. Summer stopped being a scheduling problem.
The Results
Since launching the partnership, Franklin University has seen:
- 4800 clinical hours delivered across the NP and RN-BSN tracks
- Consistent quarter-over-quarter placement volume, including through summer months when traditional placement activity drops
- Zero students delayed by placement availability
- Reduced coordinator workload, with one platform replacing separate placement processes for each program track
